Florida runs the country's heaviest inbound calendar, and outbound loads have to be fitted around it. Condo and gated-community rules — elevator reservations, certificates of insurance, fixed move windows — decide the schedule more often than the street does.

From Florida, the destinations covered here run from about 334 miles (Georgia) to roughly 2,846 miles (Washington). That spread is why a single "what does a move cost" answer is useless: at 334 miles a loaded shipment delivers in a 2–4-day window, and at 2,846 miles it is 6–12 days.

Outbound Florida corridors run north to the Carolinas, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, and west to Texas. Several are high-volume enough that trailers run the lane most weeks of the year.

Licensing

Interstate or intrastate: which is your Florida move?

A move that starts and ends inside Florida is an intrastate move, governed by Florida law rather than by the FMCSA. Different licence, different complaint process, and usually different pricing — intrastate work is commonly billed hourly while interstate work is billed on weight and distance. Verify a mover's state authority with the Florida agency that oversees motor carriers before you book, and do not assume a USDOT number alone covers an in-state move.

The moment your shipment crosses the Florida state line it is an interstate move under federal law. The carrier must hold active FMCSA operating authority — a USDOT number plus household-goods authority — must give you the federal "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" booklet, and must price the move against a published tariff rather than an hourly rate. You can check any USDOT number yourself on the FMCSA SAFER system before you sign anything.

Moving from Florida: common questions

  • Measured from Florida's population-weighted centre, Georgia is about 334 miles, North Carolina is about 599 miles, and Texas is about 1,215 miles. Those are geometric road estimates, so your door-to-door figure will differ by where in Florida you start — the county and city pages below narrow it down, and the full distance hub covers state-to-state pairs directly.

Population figures are US Census estimates. Distances are geometric road estimates from this site's documented model, not routed door-to-door mileage. Cost ranges are informational estimates from the published rate model — not quotes or binding estimates. See the distance hub for state-to-state pairs.
